da imperador bet: It’s all going on at Aston Villa. Despite selling Donyell Malen to AS Roma for financial reasons, the high-flying Midlands club are primed to invest in new attacking talent before the January transfer window slams shut.

da premier bet: Everton rocked up at Aston Villa and left with all the spoils in the Premier League last time out. It left a sour taste in Unai Emery’s mouth. But then, it also snapped an 11-game winning run at Villa Park, and that’s a clear marker of where the club are at right now.

Still, if the Villans are to maintain pace with those at the top of the division, it’s imperative that Emery is stocked with the tools to fashion success.

In attack, Villa need more, and the NSWE Group are prepared to invest before the January transfer window slams shut.

The latest on Aston Villa's hunt for forwards

Expect something of a merry-go-round in the coming days. Villa are targeting Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta; Palace want Evann Guessand after his so-so start to life at Villa Park; Youssef En-Nesyri and Tammy Abraham both remain on the radar.

However, Mateta is proven in the Premier League over the past several years, and in this, he may well be the pick of the bunch.

According to Football Transfers, the France international has taken a giant step towards moving to the Midlands this month by agreeing personal terms with Villa ahead of a potential switch. Juventus have already seen a financially unviable approach rejected, but the Eagles are continuing to field enquiries for their wantaway talisman.

Palace chairman Steve Parish wants as much as £35m for the 28-year-old, who is into the final 18 months of his contract. Chelsea have also registered their interest.

Why Mateta would be perfect for Rogers

Aston Villa have been clinical and efficient in attack this season. Ollie Watkins has roared into life over the past few months, and Morgan Rogers is a machine in attacking midfield, “unstoppable” when he gets going, as has been said by pundit Jamie Carragher.

Rogers is a rare brand of attack, penetrating and precise. As per FotMob, the 23-year-old has scored seven goals and supplied four assists in the Premier League this season, creating 25 chances and completing as many dribbles.

He’s a real force, and his energy and directness allow Watkin to thrive. Thus, Rogers could be an absolute dream for Mateta, whose physical and no-nonsense attacking style has led analyst Ben Mattinson to describe him as “one of the best strikers in the Premier League”.

Mateta does miss chances, but he’s a real nuisance in the final third, perfectly utilising his big frame to get the better of defenders around him.

And more importantly, he’s gone from strength to strength in the five-and-a-half years he’s spent at Selhurst Park, with one journalist asserting that Glasner has shaped him into a “monster in front of goal”. Mateta is on course for double digits for the third successive Premier League campaign.

While Watkins is a fluent and established Premier League forward, it wouldn’t be a bad thing to add a powerful focal point from which the Villa creators can target.

Rogers is a fierce playmaking force, but Villa only rank third for big chances created (45) in the top flight this term. That’s quite the skew, especially when considering Emery’s troops are second in the standings, eyes on an incredible title charge.

Mateta has great hold-up play, but he’s no creative force from number nine. Even so, his powerful presence in the final third would bear dividends for Aston Villa as they look to maintain this incredible effort.

Rogers and co would hit the jackpot with such an experienced and mighty striker to target, a counterpoint to Watkins’ more fluid style.

It would be a signing that says this: Aston Villa recognise the potential of this campaign, and they are determined to give themselves every chance of making it a prize-winning finish.
